NY Marriages Begin
On July 24, 2011, those who were inclined to marry were able to do so in New York. My husband, Richard, and I have been eagerly reading the New York Time's Weddings and Celebrations section, which has had tremendous coverage of same-sex marriages held in the State of New York.
What has piqued our interest are the number of couples who have been together for many, many years and who now eagerly marry. It puts a lie to those (including those in our own community) who say we have no real enduring commitment to each other or that marriage is irrelevant. Many of these couples have persisted despite great odds and I hope that they will continue through life together.
